Just before the Easter break, Year 4 students at the British Primary School of Wilanów wrapped up their engaging Crime and Punishment topic with a truly immersive experience—a full Victorian school day on campus. As part of their historical studies, the pupils had been exploring the justice system across different time periods, learning about the evolution of law, discipline and the role of education in society. Their deep dive into Victorian-era schools culminated in a carefully designed experiential learning day, led by Mrs Barker and Mrs Garlick. The transformation was complete—from strict routines and formal classroom behaviour to 19th-century etiquette and traditional lessons. Teachers adopted authentic Victorian roles, reinforcing expectations of manners, obedience, and silence in a manner that was both educational and engaging. Students dressed the part and took on the challenge with enthusiasm, gaining firsthand insight into the stark differences between modern and historical education. The experience not only enriched their understanding of the topic but also helped students reflect on how far schools—and society—have come in terms of rights, fairness, and student wellbeing. Through this interactive approach, BSW continues to demonstrate the power of creative, inquiry-based learning that goes beyond textbooks. With history brought vividly to life, Year 4 students left with new perspectives and lasting memories. Well done to all involved for stepping into the past with curiosity and open minds.
